A Sacred Day of Drum Making with Peter Pictou
On June 21, 2025, the Summer Solstice brought a truly unforgettable experience to Touched by an Angel Spiritual Centre at 411 Hwy 8, Maitland Bridge, NS. Under the expert guidance of Peter Pictou, a respected Elder of the Acadian First Nations and renowned Mi’kmaq drum maker, participants embarked on a heartfelt journey to craft their own 15” deer hide drums with deer antler handles and maple wood hoops.
The day began with a beautiful meditation, honoring the ancestors, the spirit of the animal, the land, and our hearts. In the serene woods adjacent to Kejimkujik National Park, each participant poured their spirit and intention into creating a sacred drum—a powerful tool that carries the heartbeat of Mother Earth. Peter’s wisdom and teachings illuminated the process, connecting everyone to Mi’kmaq traditions and the healing power of the drum.
The intimate gathering of 6 participants fostered a deep sense of community. The day concluded with a joyous potluck feast, filled with laughter, conversation, and the warmth of kindred spirits under the solstice sky. Everyone left with not only a handcrafted drum but also a profound connection to the earth and its rhythms.
Darlene and Lee, hosts of Touched by an Angel Spiritual Centre, extend their heartfelt thanks to all who joined this sacred event. Your presence made this day truly special!
